We’re excited to welcome Sam Scalz, a renowned Nature Artist specializing in herpetological and aquatic subjects, to our September meeting!

Sam will be sharing his fascinating journey as a reptile artist, discussing his experiences in the US show circuit and his travels across the country exploring diverse habitats and participating in aquarium and reptile shows. With over 35 years of keeping and breeding various species of reptiles and amphibians, Sam brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to our community.

We are a passionate team of new and familiar faces, excited to grow our herp community and share our love, awareness, education, and support for reptiles and amphibians.

Mark your calendars! 

Our regular monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. Join us at the Casa Del Prado Building in Balboa Park (1650 El Prado, San Diego 92101 – Room 104).

What can you expect at our meetings? 

Engage in lively discussions, enjoy light refreshments, meet fellow reptile and amphibian enthusiasts, and get up close with live reptiles and amphibians. We also have guest speakers and presentations by experts in herpetology, including researchers, biologists, vets, breeders, hobbyists, and zoologists.

San Diego Herpetological Society is a Nonprofit Corporation serving the community since 1978.  The SDHS reaches out to everyone with a  passion or curiosity for reptiles, amphibians kept as pets or studied and observed in nature.  Our primary objective is to create a supportive environment for enthusiasts whether a beginner or life-long hobbyist or breeder. We are a membership based organization open to individuals and families with an interest, curiosity or passion for these fascinating creatures
