SDHS Monthly Member Meeting: Tuesday, January 21st at 7:00 PM

Speaker:
Glen M. Lubcke

  • Manager of Long-Range Conservation Planning at California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW)
  • 35+ years of experience in herpetology
  • Extensive work with pond turtles and conservation efforts in California

Topic: North vs. South: Western Pond Turtles in Northern California

Overview:
Join us for an exciting evening with Glen M. Lubcke, a seasoned herpetologist with over 35 years of experience, as he takes us on a journey to explore the fascinating world of Western Pond Turtles, California’s only native freshwater turtle.

In this talk, Glen will compare the pond turtles of northern California with those found right here in San Diego County. You’ll learn about how these turtles can grow to much larger sizes in the northern Sacramento Valley and how different populations of these turtles vary both between and within areas.

Additionally, Glen will share some memories from the early days of the San Diego Herpetological Society and a tale of the Dictionary Hill rat snake—from his personal experience.

This meeting is an excellent opportunity to learn about local turtle populations, connect with fellow herp enthusiasts, and hear Glen's fascinating experiences from his extensive career in herpetology.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Please RSVP above.
